Garden Organic Seed SWAP list 2025
We have been supported every year even since the very first Seedy Saturday in Brighto in 2002 by Garden Organic , formerly known as the Henry Doubleday Research Association , and the keepers of the Heritage Seed library.
The work of this organisation in preserving vegetable varieties is unparallelled and they have always been a great inspiration of mine.
Working predominantly with Heirloom and Heritage varieties and former commercial varieties that have fallen off the commercial growing lists and would other wise have been lost.

what is CIC ? CSA?
Some of the seeds I have been growing at Gwel Lowena and feeding into the SeedSaverSwap Seedy Sunday event have also found root at local CSA's Community Roots in Porthtowan and Grassroots Garden at Radnor ,Loveland in Falmouth and Redruth CIC's Food Troops. All of whom at some point have grown my Gwel Lowena landrace broadbeans which will again of course be featured at the seed swap.
But what is a CIC and for that matter a CSA ?
A community interest company (CIC) is a type of limited company that aims to benefit the community it serves, rather than making a profit for private shareholder.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a great way to support local agriculture. It promotes sustainable farming practices and gives customers fresh, seasonal produce.
Those fortunate enough to have signed up for a veg box at either of the CSA mentioned above will no doubt have been wowed by the quality and taste,
and pleasanty suprised at previously unknown varieties of vegetables.
Some of which have found their way to your plate via our seedswap, for example.
Gwel Lowena landrace broadbean,
Asturian tree cabbage,
Taunton dean perennial kale,
Thrupps landrace parsnip.
Mary Reynolds heirloom tomato. Waleys pea bean. Simms corsair runner bean.

Seedy Saturday seed swaps are great networking events for all growers, allotments, gardens, with land or just starting out with pots and window boxes.
I co-organised the first SeedySaturday in the UK, held in Kemptown, Brighton in 2002.
This has gone on to inspire hundreds of similar Seedy Saturday/Sunday events in the UK.
We've always aimed to promote our events around beginning of Feb, Imbolc, the Celtic festival marking the beginning of Spring Feb 1-4th.
Seed saving as an action promotes the concept of seed sovereignty, the right of the grower to save, use, exchange their own seed.
SEEDY SATURDAY/ SUNDAYS champion the grower and seed saver, they help to build networks, local, national and international

Seedy Saturday 1st FEB 2025
It's that time of year again (Imbolc) heralding the start of Spring and our minds turn to thoughts of what we might do, grow and become in this year 2025.
With that said Community Rise UP are happy to be working with local CIC and CSA's Grassroots garden, Community Roots and Resilient Orchards to bring you a selection of seeds , scions and ideas to assist your growth this year.
With locally adapted seed from Gwel Lowena forest garden and HDRA Heritage Seed Library come and swap seeds with those seed saving enthusiasts in our community. Various meetings planned in the morning from 11am with Incredible edible, Cornwall seed hub and The Natural Farming group.
Seed swap start from 12 til 3 .. ish...
The Vegan cafe is open with snacks and drinks, and we look forward to seeing you there.
